Roof assembly
The 2018 International Residential Code (IRC), published by the International Code Council (ICC) defines a roof assembly as: ‘A system designed to provide weather protection and resistance to design loads. The system consists of a roof covering and roof deck or a single component serving as both the roof covering and the roof deck. A roof assembly includes the roof deck, underlayment and roof covering, and can also include a thermal barrier, ignition barrier, insulation or a vapor retarder.’
